Fashionable Friday: Godspeed, John Glenn.

ff-johnglenn

This week, we lost another great, a true hero. Astronaut and politician John Glenn passed at the age of 95. The fact that for the last two days I’ve been awakened by an internal soundtrack of David Bowie singing “Starman” and “Major Tom” seemed to be a clear sign I needed to recognize our collective loss.

John Glenn was born with The Right Stuff and he was the last surviving astronaut of the Mercury program. He is also the oldest man to ever go into space having gone back out on the space shuttle in 1998 at the age of 77. So, in honor of the legend, this week’s Fashionable Friday is interstellar and out of this world, just the way John Glenn might want it. Godspeed, John Glenn. The stars await you.

  1. Thank you so much for doing this. I knew John and Annie quite well and in a very specific context. John was an extraordinary person and an even greater husband.

He extended himself to me and showed respect and sensitivity that I will never forget.

It may seem weird but coming from a pen person and more personal, it means a lot. I am really sad but I’m fortunate to have some lovely memories.

    Thank you so much!

  2. Hi Ana. I clicked on the link to Etsy for the stamps and bought those and three others.

Outside of Cleveland was the Plum Brook NASA Center that did research using a nuclear reactor. It was closed, and the nuclear reactor was dismantled. The center there now is named The NASA Glenn Center.

I bought the portfolio they sell at their online shop for my Dad. It’s large, can hold 8 1/2×11″ paper, and has quite a few pockets for storage.

I’ve found the NASA centers that sell online aren’t the quickest shippers, but the portfolio is a very nice item with Senator Glenn’s name embossed on it along with the NASA “meatball” logo.

      1. That’s cool. And it’s the only NASA center in the Midwest. I have the DVD Ashes to Atoms that tells the story up to the decommissioning of the nuclear reactor at that site.
