  1. Thirteen is definitely a lucky number for me – lots of family birthdays & anniversaries happen on the 13th of various months, and I moved across the country to be with my now husband on the 13th of October, years ago.

    Thanks for the giveaway, Ana!

  2. I LOVE numbers 🙂 I don’t think there are any bad numbers. My favorite number is 12 but I also really love 2, 4, 8 and 11.

  3. The number 13 doesn’t mean anything to me. My favorite number is 8. I really don’t know why it’s just so round. Hahaha

  4. While I don’t believe in any sort of luck attached to numbers, my wife actually has a “favorite number”: 22. And really any number consisting of multiple twos.

  5. 13 has always been a lucky number for me. My sister was born on the 13th, so maybe that’s why I like it. 🙂

  6. My lucky number would be 4. 4 of anything is usually neither too much of something or too little of something.

  7. Lucky or not it’s interesting. It’s one of only 3 “Wilson” primes, it’s also a Fibonacci number and the third “centered square number”

  8. 13 is as fine a number as all the others but 27 is my favorite for reasons I don’t even know! Just a good combo.

  9. 13 is fine because it is a prime. But not my favorite number.

Looks like the pen case would make a nice sketch case. Sketchbook and pens with different color inks.

  10. My lucky number is 13. It was always available as a jersey number for sports teams when I was a kid.

  11. Poor #13 – what did it ever do to deserve such a bad reputation? My personal lucky number is 8 ( it looks like the infinity sign!) but 13 is an okay number too. That gorgeous pen case would perfectly match my wallet.

LOVE your blog! Happy, Happy Easter!!

  12. No strong feelings on 13; however, I do usually take note if elevators or buildings skip 13. My favorite number is 7, my birth date.

  13. I love symbols and numbers but i’m not superstitious or fearful. 13 can be lucky. It’s one more than a dozen. I think it’s called a bakers dozen? I love the number 3. It’s so perfect. 10 is also perfect. We are good!

  14. I like the number 13, because often people get superstitious about it – if others avoid it, it leaves more for me (that logic doesn’t make sense when I “say” it out loud!). I also walk under ladders, just because I can. All cats make me sneeze and puff up (allergies), but black cats are especially pretty, from the proper distance. I also open my umbrella inside — to let it dry. So far, so good!

  15. Thirteen is great for kitchen timers when ten is too little and fifteen is too much (;

  16. 13 is as good a number as any, to me! I personally like any number with 7’s because it is “God’s number” – lol!

  17. Darn! I’m not the 13th poster 🙁 Since it is mid way between decimal and hex, I don’t have to worry about code in base thirteen 🙂

  18. I don’t generally believe in suspicions, so 13 is neither lucky or favorable to me. That said, I respect those that treat it either way.

  19. I haven’t been cursed by 13, but I tend to be superstitious. My lucky # is 4, but that’s not enough when it comes to pens!

  20. I’m not a “lucky number” kind of person, but it always amuses me when an old building skips the 13th floor. Blue is my favorite color, so thanks for the opportunity to win such a gorgeous pen case!

  21. My childhood lucky number was 16, because that was the age that Ariel from The Little Mermaid was. I outgrew it when I surpassed her in age. I don’t think 13 is especially unlucky, but I am amused when people go to great lengths to avoid it.

  22. I suppose my lucky number would be 35 as that was the age everything started to come together.

  23. My lucky number is 11, not sure why though. Haha. I don’t take any offense to the number 13, but it is kind of fun to mess with people who are suspicious of it.

  24. I was born on Feb 13. I was always glad I wasn’t born on Valentine’s Day. The 12th, Lincoln’s birthday, would have been OK.

I’ve noticed many buildings do not have a 13th floor….

  25. 13 works a lucky number for me if I were to win this pen holder 🙂 thanks for the chance to win!

  26. Ha, poor thirteen. It’s time we did a little campaign to improve the self-esteem of this poor maligned number….’cause why isn’t a baker’s dozen a good thing? As for my personal lucky nubmer I don’t really have one, but my kid swears by 21 so 21 it is. Can you even share a lucky number? <3

  27. It’s just a number. I’ve never understood why hotels don’t have a 13th floor button. It’s still a 13th floor!!!

  28. There could never be anything unlucky about a baker’s dozen. Amiright? There’s something sacred about the wholesome work a baker does, creating the daily bread that sustains is, the pastry delights that distract us from our woes. Oh, no, thirteen is a great number.

  29. I usually don’t think of 13 as either lucky or unlucky but I might begin to consider it lucky if I win this contest.

  30. There’s something elegant about thirteen. It’s prime, but adjacent to 12, which has many factors. I think it’s lucky. Since others avoid it, there are more thirteens left for those of us who admire and respect it!

  31. Each year my lucky number changes to my current age. I want every year of my life to be lucky! 😀

  32. honestly, i don’t think that much about 13.
wait, i take that back. i used to work on the 12th floor of a building. when i would get in the elevator with someone going to the 14th floor (there was no “13th floor”), i’d always wonder if the people who work on the 14th floor ever thought about ACTUALLY working on the 13th floor.
now i work on the 2nd floor of a 5 story building and rarely think about it.
btw, the case is ~beautiful~ thank you for the opportunity!

  33. I haven’t witnessed any lucky/unlucky circumstances surrounding 13, but I do find it cool that most buildings are designed without a 13th floor (one time I was in a building that DID have a 13th floor, and it weirded me out). My lucky number is 8, though I’d say it’s more like my favorite number because it’s my birthdate.

  34. Since auspicious means “pointing toward a happy outcome”, 13 is definitely auspicious! It points toward 14 – my lucky birthday number.

  35. I like 13s — unless they are on Fridays — but 3.14 is clearly a more auspicious number than 13.

  36. Whether I feel 13 is good or bad tends to depend on how I already feel about a given scenario. If I feel positive or good about it, 13 is great – woo!. If I’m afraid or nervous, 13 feels like the harbinger of doom. It’s like a +/-1amplifier either way.

  37. Neither lucky nor unlucky 13… just a number, but an interesting number of pens to carry. My favourite (lucky?) number is 9. Not sure why just always been my favourite. Yes I’m British so my spelling is different

  38. I have not felt like 13 was ever particularly unlucky for me, but I don’t think any numbers are particularly lucky, either. (I think I am too much of a pragmatist for this question for my answer to be interesting. My apologies.)

AGE 13 sucked, though, but I think it sucks for everyone, so that is not a good indicator.

  39. Question : I’m overseas but I have a forwarding service In Oregon for parcels. Does that make me eligible for this or not? Also, my lucky number is 8, not sure why, maybe it’s a Discworld thing… And I REALLY need a pen case!

  40. I was born on Friday the 13th, makes me a little bias to the number 13. And Fridays too.

  41. I think prime numbers are neat so 13 is okay by me.

Good luck to everyone, and thanks for running this giveaway!

  42. I don’t believe in the number 13 being unlucky. If I had, I wouldn’t have been married on that date almost 21 years ago. It was definitely auspicious for me.

  43. Personally I’ve always thought of 13 as a very lucky number. While others trip over themselves to avoid it I prefer to embrace it.

  44. 13 seems a good number to me. Currently at three fountain pens; excited to add another ten!

  45. I’m not really into the whole auspicious/unlucky number thing, maybe because nothing significant has happened to me in a recurring way on a particular date. I do tend to give things three chances, though. I read something that suggested that you couldn’t really know if you liked an activity or food or person until you had encountered it at least three times, so I do tend to go with that.

  46. Thirteen is ok with me because it’s prime, but I think my lucky number is either 3 or 6, I can’t really decide.

  47. I’m not particularly superstitious, so 13 is just another number. However, I am fond of 8 and 28. They’re just nice and round XD

  48. The only reason I think 13 is unlucky is because the year I was 13 was particularly crappy. Otherwise I don’t think any number is lucky or unlucky!

  49. My response is basically the same as second-commenter Scott. Fourteen is the best number (Pi Day baby, here)! I am not one for superstitions in general, and have nothing against poor number 13. 🙂

  50. I tell myself I don’t think there’s anything superstitious with the number 13 as I avoid black cats, throw salt over my shoulder, and knock on wood.

  51. Thirteen is a lucky number for me as my father was born on Feb.13 and my son was born on Jul.13.

  52. I suppose on Good Friday, I shouldn’t say anything against 13 (supposedly part of its ignominy is it’s association with the number of people at the Last Supper). Anyway, I’ve always had an affinity for three, as it’s the smallest prime number.

  53. I’m okay with 13. It is what it is.
But I really enjoy being in the elevators of old hotels/buildings when I spot there’s no 13th floor. 😀

  54. My husband says 13 is his lucky number. But, he’s a little bit crazy (he’s married to me after all). Personally, I don’t think any number is lucky or unlucky. However, when I was in business I would avoid using 13 in any auspicious way just to avoid offending anyone who DID think it was unlucky.

Luckily, it was never a problem.

  55. I couldn’t have picked a better number. 13 is my lucky number and always has been.

  56. It’s strange how some cultures value some numbers more than others. 13 is traditionally seen as unlucky for most Western countries. 4 sound sounds like death in Chinese language so is seen as very unlucky (cf. 8 which is highly auspicious as a symbol of attracting wealth). For me personally, no number is unlucky or auspicious (unless you make it so… 😉 )

  57. I think my lucky number is 89. It kept coming up in life in acct numbers, assigned parking spaces, etc…. curious. Don’t know why that number kept popping up in my life. Beautiful pen case and hope to come up with the lucky winning number !

  58. I think the number 13 is a great number. I love all the non dividable ones, I think it makes them unique. It was also my grandfather’s lucky number so I include it when I buy a lottery ticket!

  59. I admit I’m a neurotic superstitious worrywart. If I won this, I’d probably only use it for 12 pens because I’m weird like that

  60. I have no reason to think anything significant one way or another about the number 13. My number has always been 4 though, for no other reason than that it was my number when I played soccer.

  61. Thirteen is neither lucky nor unlucky. It is just a number. That pen case, however, will be lucky for whoever gets it. Gorgeous.

  62. I’ve always considered 13 a lucky number. My BD is 03/10, so the various combinations of 1 and 3 and 10 have always been good to me!

  63. 13 is an auspicious date for me, because I get paid the next day, and that means I can rationalize buying more fountain pens. Also, 13 is a prime number–it stands aloof, having hardly anything to do with other numbers. I think it’s silly that buildings don’t have 13th floors, but I guess there has to be someplace for all the mechanical stuff.

  64. I haven’t found 13 to be particularly unlucky. My lucky number has to be 22 or 6. Either one will do because they involve my best friend.

  65. I find 13 to be auspicious despite my upbringing that 13 is unlucky especially when it was a Friday.

  66. Love the color on this one!! I was due to be born on the 13th. Born on the 23rd instead. So 23 is my lucky number, but I guess 13 is bad luck for my mom!

  67. 13 is a number…which like any other number, is somewhat of an abstraction. So I don’t consider it lucky or unlucky.

The number I don’t forget is 17, as in June 17, my anniversary. It would be profoundly unfortunate for me to forget that.

  68. 13 is a very lucky number to my family. My mom was born on January 13 when my dad was adopted it was on January 13th, and my little brother was also adopted on January 13th. It’s a very important day. I’ve always found it strange that people feared Friday the 13th. My niece is getting married in 2 weeks on Friday the 13th. I can’t wait to go.

  69. I am not bothered by the number 13, but my grandmother was extremely superstitious and this case would have frightened her!

  70. 13 has never been anything but neutral for me. Now, 14 – that’s my number! It’s my birthday, but it has come up a lot of times in my life; addresses, combinations, etc. Kinda strange. I choose to see it as lucky, cause I just like the number. It has a nice symmetry. But I could still really get into having 13 pens all in a row in a pretty leather case.

  71. 13 always makes me think of Agatha Christie , I neither think of it as lucky or unlucky however the number is 5 is a different matter I got my puppy Buster on the 5/5 /15 and that has turned out to be one of my best days ever

  72. I like number 13. My number is 9. I was born on the ninth day of the month. I think 13 can be unlucky for some, but not for me. My email is pmontyda@yahoo.com so you can contact me. 🙂

  73. It’s a lucky number because it’s the number of pens/slots in a variety of nice pen cases, including this one?

  74. I don’t think 13 is an unlucky number, but when I had 13 pens, I had to get another, pronto!

  75. I’ve never been very superstitious, I think 13 is no more or less lucky than any other number! It’s a good number of pens for daily carry though 🙂

  76. I can’t say that I find the number ’13’ lucky nor unlucky. Just another number, really 🙂
It is interesting how the superstition around the number came about though, and how to this day there is still a large number of people who find it to be unlucky (and hotels even omitting the 13th floor — folks on 14 know where they’re at though 😉 ).

  77. I’ve always kinda enjoyed acknowledging Friday the 13th, though I don’t really believe in the superstition. It’s more of a folklore….

  78. I’m not going to press the issue, but if you divide my birthday by 2x Euler’s Identity, it’s THIRTEEN! OMG! Cosmic forces at work! Just saying… And, a handsome case it is, too! My collection will be well-housed — Nick

  79. As for the number 13, I don’t quite believe it’s unlucky. I believe that we make our own luck. The harder I work the more luck I seem to have. That’s a quote, isn’t it?

  80. 13 is one of my lucky numbers. My grandfather was born on a 13th, always aced my exams when they were on day 13 (and more so if it was on Friday 13th or the Spanish jinxed day Tuesday the 13th). So yep, love 13! Also love that case! Considering getting it at some point.

  81. Hmmmm…I like thinking 13 is special, but mostly, I dont actually think of it as an unlucky number. It amuses me so much to look for room 13 at hotels I go to.

My lucky number is and has always been 2 and all numbers containing only 2’s (i.e. 22, 222, 222222, etc.). I’m not sure why, but I guess because I’m a second child hahah. It’s really weird.

Thanks for the opportunity! Fantastic review. This case is something I’ve been looking at ever since it came out. Still havent sprung out on it.

  82. I used to think my lucky number was 8, based on an having unlikely winning streak in a pick-a-number-spin-the-wheel game at a fireman’s carnival in my youth and seizing a dubious bonanza of framed David Bowie mirrors and stuffed animals. Since then I have learned that I am luckless; and this is also the reason that I don’t go in for triskaidekaphobia, because the opposite must also be true.

  83. Oooo, this case looks classy! Thirteen is a lucky number, too bad people avoid it so much and many hotels don;t have a 13th floor. My lucky number is 6 – It’s the number I always pick when asked to ‘choose a number between 1 and 10’ and has never disappointed! Lucky because it’s the number found in the number of my family members, my house number, my car license plate and soon my age!

  84. I definitely notice the number 13 when it shows up, whether it is the date or the last numbers in my grocery bill total, or someone’s phone number. But I don’t view it with dread, or think it’s particularly unlucky. And indeed, I’ve had plenty of bad days in my life and few fell on the 13th, whether a Friday or not.

  85. 13 is an auspicious number. It’s a beautiful looking number and also a prime consisting of the first two primes. Happens to be be my lucky number as well (bday).

  86. 13 makes me think of a Baker’s Dozen … 12 for the group and an extra one for the baker!

  87. Absolutely auspicious Anna. The Wancher case is a beautiful pen case. Thanks for the opportunity to win it.

  88. 13 is a lucky number for me – no triskaidekaphobia here! My parents were married on the 13th, and their 13th anniversary was a Friday 13th, which was also a favourite cousin’s 13th birthday. They had 13 children. The number 13 is all good news for me.

  89. I have no fear of the number 13. My favorite is 15. I wore that number on a baseball jersey when I was (much) younger

  90. Friday the thirteenth always worries me, especially if it falls on a day other than Friday.

  91. I don’t think 13 is unlucky. It makes me mental in hotels that they skip it as a floor.

  92. I think 13 is an auspicious number and I’m not sure why people avoid labeling it on cd’s, elevators, etc. considering that even if it isn’t labeled, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

  93. I’ve never had a problem with the number 13. In fact, my wife and I made it one of our biggest anniversaries by having a Lucky Number 13 party. Really it was just an excuse to have a party, but it was as good of reason as any!

  94. My favorite number is 8. I don’t think I’m superstitious about 13. I know my parents aren’t. The house they live in has an address with a 13 in it!

  95. I love the number 13. I’m always disappointed when buildings don’t have a 13th floor, or room 13. I don’t think it’s any bit unluckier than any other number.

It and 7 are my lucky numbers.

  96. I don’t think of numbers as being lucky or unlucky. No worries, even on Friday the thirteenth!

  97. I consider 13 to be a lucky number for me as my Dad was born on December 13. Though 2 is my favorite.

  98. I don’t believe in lucky or unlucky numbers, but I do believe that numbers can be beautiful or ugly. 13 is an ugly number, to me that is. It’s an ugly prime that is almost a tripping point on the way to 12 (which I think is beautiful). My absolute favorite number is pi. Wow! What a number!

  99. It’s neither for me. I don’t believe in lucky/unlucky numbers. My favorite number is 16. The day my middle daughter was born.

  100. I don’t really think 13 is unlucky. If I were to have an lucky number, it would probably be the number 4.

  101. 13 might be an ugly prime number, but I don’t think it’s inherently evil.
I’d have to say my lucky number would be 6. A nice divisible number, and high dice roll.

  102. I’m becoming increasingly superstitious with age. 13 is not my jam, but this pen case is amazing!

  103. Lately, my favorite number seems to be 111 because I have been seeing it everywhere. Maybe a sign for new beginnings, like winning this pen case? 🙂

  104. 13 is my lucky number. My first date with the love of my life was on Friday the 13th, 38 years ago and going strong! Loved the weather since then. And I do love this pen case too!

  105. Lucky number 6. Birth month is June, the day is a multiple of six as was the year and at 6am. Beautiful case!

  106. Superstitions are about belief. So if you believe 13 is unlucky, it’s unlucky to you. If you believe 13 is lucky, is lucky to you.

  107. I don’t hold any feelings toward the number 13 but ever since I watched The Number 23 with Jim Carrey I have had a weird gut feeling about 23 every time I see it. For some reason that movie just made that number stick out more. Best of luck to all the entrants.

  108. As a graphic design 13 is easy to work with. I have always found 2 and 5 more challenging , flat and round left and right so I like these more.

  109. 13 is not a unlucky number for me.
My lucky number is 7 and I don‘t know why. If I have to choose a number, I always take 7

  110. I do not think of 13 as either auspicious or unlucky. The number 5 has been good to me, as I was married on 5/15/05.

  111. I don’t think that 13 is an unlucky number. But I sure don’t like Friday the 13th.

My favorite number is 1911 because of John Browning.

  112. I don’t believe that a number can be lucky or unlucky but I like prime numbers. Maybe 5 if I had to chose one on aesthetics alone.

  113. In Icelandic when we knock on wood, we say 7-9-13 (sjö níu þrettán) … as those are the old lucky numbers of Viking times.

  114. Well Golly, 7 is the number of completion and perfection. 6 is incompleteness and imperfection. If you are totally dorked up you are at 6s and 7s. Next Friday is the 13th, so I gotta win this giveaway, it will be my lucky number!!

  115. I like your blog. The number 13 is neither auspicious nor unlucky. It is only so if you are superstitious. I am not superstitious because it is unlucky to be superstitious. I do not have a lucky number. If I had to pick one, I would choose the number e (2.71828…).

  116. Thirteen is an awesome number. There are triskadekaphobics who disagree. I made up the word ‘triskadekamaniac’ for those of us who like it just fine. It’s been lucky for me.

  117. In Icelandic when we knock on wood we also say 7-9-13 (sjö níu þrettán) as those are the old lucky numbers of Viking times, still baked into the language today.

  118. My lucky number is 28. I have something called Synesthesia. When I see numbers, in my mind they appear as a particular color. Twos are yellow, and eights are orange. Neither of these colors is my favorite, but somehow together, the yellow 2 and the orange 8 make me happy. Thirteen isn’t bad either. Ones are black, and threes are green. Those colors go together as well.

  119. Ooh, my “lucky number” (even though I can’t say I really believe in such things) is 32 – which is the number i wore in basketball from 6th grade through college!

  120. A number is just a number but I still like to think its unlucky or spooky.

  121. Thirteen is just another number to me, doesn’t bother me at all. I don’t really have a lucky number either, guess I’m kind of boring that way! However I do love numbers and keep important ones safe in my mind – like the racing numbers for my dogs. 🙂

  122. 13 indeed seems to be my lucky number. I’ve been loving it since I was a little kid. Maybe it started out of spite, but I’ve loved it ever since. And I love Friday 13th, if not because everyone is superstitious around here and hates it. I got my driving license on one of these days, and in July it will be my very last day of university, so the good luck continues. 🙂 One a side note, that is indeed a most gorgeous case!

  123. My lucky number is 27 because it is the day of the month I was born and I just like the way it sounds!

  124. I like odd numbers and 13 is no exception. I don’t consider it auspicious or unlucky.

Thank you for offering it up. It is a beautiful case!

  125. I was born on a 13th so I’d hope it’s a lucky number! I studied in France and my birthday happened the fall on a Friday the 13th and they told me I should buy lottery tickets. (I did not.)

  126. I’m certainly no triskadecaphobic as my current collection will reach 13 with my two most recent purchases. The sad news is they’re both back ordered and waiting is the hardest part!

  127. I’m not superstitious and I know it’s entirely coincidental, but I’ve a decent number of good things happen to me with some relation to the number 4, so for the sake of conversation 4 is my lucky number.

  128. I decided to like 13 when I was a kid and my friends were scared about Friday the 13th. I wanted to be cool and brave (and contrary) so I went against the grain.

  129. I’ ve never found 13 to be either lucky or unlucky. On occasions when I have been in a building with no 13th floor I have been amused. If I were to win the pen case, I would revise my opinion about this integer.

  130. 23 is my lucky number, but today I’m hoping it’s whatever my comment number is…

  131. So fancy!

I generally like numbers (I’m a bit of a math nerd). I don’t find 13 to be especially lucky or unlucky.

  132. A number is a number is a number. 13 comes after 12 and before 14. Nothing overly special in my opinion, just is.

  133. I guess my lucky number would be 9. Ever since I learned a bit of numerology that one just made sense because it’s 3 times 3, and so a “perfect” number if you will.

  134. My wife was born on the 13th. Its a lucky number. My favorite number, however, is 17 since that’s the day of the month when I was born.

  135. 13 is Donald Duck’s lucky number in the old comic books. If it’s good enough for him, it’s good enough for me.

  136. 13 is a number that can start a conversation. It would be a lucky number for the person who get the case.
