I met the creative team behind Wonderland 222 while I was in Portland this summer and was absolutely delighted to be able to put faces to this amazing product line. Wonderland 222 is best known for their Tomoe River-based planners — simple, minimal planners in loads of formats.
While talking with Liisa, I discovered that Wonderland 222 still has some notebooks that use the classic Tomoegawa (original) Tomoe River paper.

I purchased the B6 368page Grid Edition ($24) from 2023 in Lichen (which is a very minty green). The notebook has a softcover, similar to the materials used for Stalogy and other flexy cover. And the big news of course is that these notebooks still contain 52gsm Tomoe River Paper by Tomoegawa. Yep, you read that correctly, Wonderland 222 still has old school Tomoe River Tomegawa paper notebooks still in back stock.

Inside, there is a page for a key and an index (just one page for each) and then simple pages for the remainder of the book.

The pages have numbers down the side for use as a time tracking/time blocking and at the top, there is a place to write in the date. The numbers start at 5 (am assumably) and goes to 24:00 (or midnight).

Each page is numbered which makes indexing easier.

It was fun to pen test on this classic stock and results were exactly what I expect from old school Tomoe River.

I definitely want to stock up on a few more of these notebooks especially since they are available with this delicious classic Tomoe River paper and available in an array of sizes (A5, A6 and B6) and page count (96, 192 and 368pp).
I also grabbed one to giveaway to one lucky reader. It’s a B6, 96-page softcover notebook ($10) in the Perfect Pinecone colorway which is sort of a shimmery copper color. It would make a perfect project notebook.

Tough call – so much depends upon how I use them. If I had to choose only one, it would need to be A5.
While I am US based, I find myself using A4+ and A5 notebooks the most.
The A5 is for my journaling, my planner, my quick notes.
The A4+ (Rhodia, so when removed from notebook it is A4) I use for my writing. Most of what I write is long form fiction (thrillers & mysteries). I also write with fountain pens exclusively (well, almost), and need to have paper – like TR, Clairefontaine/Rhodia) to enjoy both the writing experience and the finished look.
I am drawn to A5 notebooks, but haven’t really tested other sizes. I do think that smaller sizes are less intimidating- less of the great white expanse to fill up!
I usually use A5; however, lately I have been using B6 and find I really like that size.
I like B6- portable enough but not as small as A6. Thanks for the giveaway, the color of the cover is beautiful for fall!
A5 is my usual go-to. I’m still trying to wrap my head around how these sizes work. Right when I had started to figure out the “A” sizes, I find out there’s “B” sizes, too?! When will the madness end?
Hmmmmmmm….I would say if I could only have one size for the rest of my life it would be A5. But I have really been enjoying the B6 this year. I do use a Logical B5 for my ink journal, and I do enjoy the bigger size for ink exploring. Thanks for the giveaway, I don’t think I have any original Tomoe River paper. I got in on the Paper Rabbit hole just this year, and its been fun exploring. Also thanks for all the insightful commentary you do, I have learned alot
A5 is my favorite; it doesn’t take up a lot of space like an A4 (good for me cuz my desk is super cluttered) and plenty of writing space. I like to use A5 long-term (at least 1 year). Sometimes I think about going over to A6 since it’s more travel friendly, but for now A5 is my go-to.
I use A6 as a testing book like swatch book, drafting spreads or trackers before upscaling it to A5, etc. I tried using A5 to test out spreads, but there was so much wasted white space that A6 feels more comfortable. If anything, I may use A6 as a dedicated tracking book or commonplace book.
I think A7 is super cute and compact but too cute to use. It’s too small for testing like an A6 and not enough space to really write like an A5… but it’s small size is so cute! The most I’ve been able to do on a A7 is swatch inks & pens and count grid boxes/lines. I still like them but don’t know what to do with them (maybe a doodle book? But I can use an A6 for that? idk… idk…)
I love B6! But it’s pretty hard to find. Definitely my go-to, with A5 being my second choice.
B6 is my standard go-to size for notebooks that I use for daily emo download journaling. If it’s for work stuff I have to go with the A5; I need more space for the “this meeting could have been an email” doodles, tasks I get volunteered for, and snarky comments I can’t say aloud without being reprimanded.
I love B6…..it is exciting to see more companies offer this size…..they used to be way harder to find.
I love B6……they used to be so hard to find so I am glad more companies are offering them.
I’ve been using A5, but have never tried a B6!
I usually use A5 but have used Traveler’s notebook size
Always fun to try something new & different
I use A5, but why not B6 for 2026? Why not?
I love A5 (Bullet Journals) and B5 (Gallen Leather). I’ve never tried a Wonderland222 before. Great giveaway and thank you for the chance. I hope you have a wonderful day!
Hmm, for casual writing, journaling, or everyday notes (like a to-do list or something), I really like B6, but for school notes I usually use A5 notebooks. I used to use A5 for journaling as well, but then I tried B6 and it actually is really nice. I also feel less pressure to have a lot of coherent things to say, since there’s less space on the page.
B6 Slim for the win!
B6 for its portability without being too small to write in! And now that I have a B6 roterfaden, I feel even more committed.
A5 for journaling but I love a B6 slim
I usually use A5, but I’m starting to really enjoy the B6 too and sometimes it’s easier to take along with me.
I tend towards A5s for my journal and passport size (B7?) for my planners and pocket notebooks but lately I’ve been testing out various Field Notes-sized and A6 books and I’m really liking that size. Wish I could easily find an A6 slim.
B6 for sure! I have a nice leather notebook cover that has aged beautifully. It is with me every day. I have had some temporary times of misplacing it, my husband says I am hard to live with until it is found!
I’m generally an A5 person, but I have a pack of B5 Kokuyo loose sheets and that size is way cooler than I expected!
I’m a B6 slim person myself and increasingly an A5 slimmer as well. I think the slimness has to do with slipping them into a purse as I rarely just leave a notebook languishing on the desk.
It’s so hard to choose! Lately I’m loving my new toy baby, a Plotter mini 5, but my favorite standard notebook is definitely A5.
Theoretically, B5 is my favorite size; however, I am increasingly finding that B6 is the most practical and useful notebook size for me in my daily use. So winning this would be ideal! lol
A5 is pretty great, but B6 feels good too!
Oh, favorite notebook size…I do like a B6 Slim, but an A6 carries a special place in my heart, as that was my TRP gateway notebook with Hobo’s Techo.
Horses for courses…
I use A6 for my collection of quotes and another for random stuff I need to… need to… er, remember!
For more on-going things like my ink usage and sort-of daily diary, I use A5. Never tried B-sizes, to be honest!
It could also be noted that while the 2022 & 2023 TR paper is from Tomoegawa, they are both paper produced on Machine 9, not (the now legendary and mythical) Machine 7.
In other words, it’s New TR-Tomoegawa paper. I got this confirmed in an email response to a question I sent to Wonderland222 last year.
So while it’s possible that it’s better than TR-Sanzen, it’s also quite possible that it’s not as good as “Old” TR paper from Machine 7, and thus flawed in its own way.
That all said, I’d still probably roll the dice on it, and would welcome a B6 notebook full of it.
For a journal, I generally like an A5 but I often go smaller as well. The paper more than the size is the determining factor for me.
It depends…
My favorite size notebook is the best quality for the best price. This is how I’ve wound up starting with B5 for journaling and note-taking. A5 comes with me to the pen shows. Pocket size for everyday carry.
I think that somewhere in my mind, the concept of “favorites” was replaced by the satisfaction of the right tool for the right job. It’s why I own more than one notebook, more than one fountain pen, and more than a few screwdrivers.
It depends.

I think that my neurodiverse brain has replaced the concept of favorites with the satisfaction of using the right tool for the right job. This is why I use more than one notebook, more than one fountain pen, and own more than a few screwdrivers.
My favorite size is B6, it strikes a good balance between usability and portability. I’m glad to see this size becoming more popular. It used to be much harder to find. I’ve even gone so far as to use a Moleskine (shudder) just because it was B6.
My favorite notebook size is A5. It just seems to be the perfect size for my needs – not too small and not too large.
Woah! The good stuff still in stock somewhere? Nice! Like finding some fine adult beverages stashed away somewhere.
I like B5 for note taking, it’s a good useful size. And classic A5 is a uh.. classic for a reason. I also like a top bound little guy that can fit in a chest pocket.
It’s “New” TR, from Machine 9, for info, not Machine 7’s legendary “good stuff” Tomoegawa…
B5 is my favorite in theory, but B6 has emerged as the practical favorite.
It can also be noted that the Tomoegawa paper in the 2022 & 2023 W222 notebooks is from Machine 9 (aka, “New” Tomoe River) not the legendary Machine 7). It’s perhaps not as varied as TR-Sanzen, but that it’s “Tomoegawa” isn’t necessarily a guarantee…
A5. It’s the most commonly available size for fountain pen friendly notebooks for transcribing lessons and doing homework. What a way to induce massive serotonin release while studying. Just imagine the amount of fun and excitement that one has picking out fountain pens and inks just to write in those notebooks for coursework.
I use a Hobinichi Weeks for my planner, so an A6 notebook fits nicely with that for EDC. In general, I will use different notebook sizes, depending on the purpose (or what I have available). The minty green of the Wonderland is lovely!
I mostly use A5 notebooks for work, planning and journalling. Frankly, this format is becoming boring to me and I feel I am ready to experiment with something else
I usually use A5 for journaling, but have recently branched out to B6 for project note-taking.
I am definitely A5 for my general writing! I have tried other sizes but they don’t fit in my purse. For language learning, it’s B5. I always have a passport size notebook in my purse just in case.
With sketchbooks though, I like lots of variety at all times!
I’m a little late, so I’m not sure if I can enter still, but A5 is my preferred for most things. My planner is in traveller’s notebook standard size? I guess. And I use a B6 for my junk journalling!
