I have always been curious about the incredibly popular Frankie Magazine Daily Journal ($26.95AU). So, I ordered one. In the time that elapsed between ordering the book and it arriving here in the States, I also received the Hobonichi which stole my nerdy heart.
This does not mean that I was not completely blown away with how lovely and romantic the Daily Journal is. Its full of gorgeous illustrations, decorative patterned borders and hand-lettered dates.
The planner is approximately 7.5″x5.75″. The cover is a beautiful heavyweight sage twill with the text stamped into it in cream. There’s a matching satin ribbon bookmark too. The binding seems sturdy but the book opens nicely. The paper is weighty (I’d compare it to American 80lb or 100lb text weight. Copy paper is about 20-30lb weight, if that gives you an idea of the sturdiness). My only concern for usability is all the printing on the paper may have added some coating to the paper that might resist some inks.
In the back cover is a printed pocket for loose sheets. There are also perforated cards, stickers and other goodies bound into the back of the book.
In the front of the book are month overviews with floral illustration. Weekly pages span two pages with Saturday and Sunday sharing a small space.
Its such a lovely book that I couldn’t bring myself to blemish it to do pen tests. Instead, I’d like to give it away to one lucky reader. In exchange, I hope that you’ll report back to me how well the paper performs so I can decide if I want to use one next year.
Let’s make this a quick giveaway so I can get this to the winner ASAP to start the new year off right. Leave a comment and tell me one of your goals, plans or resolutions for 2014.

My goals include Simplifying my life.
Looks like a great planner for the wife.
What a beautiful journal! One of my resolutions is to craft more. I love to cross-stitch. I want to be able to give all of my great nieces and nephews (that would be 12 of them) a cross-stitched ornament for Christmas 2014.
I spent last night optimizing my desk to enable me to write more!
I just finished writing my New Year’s Resolutions, and my primary resolution for the new year is to not be afraid to try to have the things that I want. I think getting this journal qualifies 😉
I want to plan each week before it starts (even if everything doesn’t go according to plan) so that I can be intentional.
My 2014 bullet journal
Looks to be a very nice journal
My big goal for this year is to join a Yoga Class and Journal more often
I want to keep a commonplace book, like Ryan Holiday. At one time, I kept a yearly art journal with one sentence per day on the calendars. Doing the art journal page fell by the wayside; so then, did the sentence per day. 🙁
My 2014 resolution is to spend less time online.
This would probably help with one of my goals, which is to write a bit in my journal every night. Sometimes an entire blank page can be a bit intimidating, but this one has just the right amount of room for each day.
PS – I assume you meant entries had to be submitted by January 1, 2014, not June 🙂
Finish my cross stitch projects and (this sounds silly, I know) to not let dishes pile up in the sink – instead I’ll try to clean the kitchen a little bit every night so things don’t pile up and get smelly. Gross, I know, but it’s an area I could improve upon in the new year….
Wow! What a pretty planner!
I guess one of my goals would be to draw/doodle more often! I regretted NOT doing it last year, so hopefully I’ll stay on top of it this year! 🙂
My wife would love this! My own personal goal for this upcoming year is to write more.
I want to read more! That’s my only resoluation. littlethingsbigstuff [at] gmail [dot] com
Beautiful planner! One of my goals is to continue learning about hand lettering, both calligraphic and hand drawn.
One of my goals is to finish the quilts I have started.
One of my goals for 2014 is to document my life more through journaling and picture-taking.
One of my goals is to focus. Lots of exciting things to do, but they won’t be accomplished if I procrastinate.
One of my goals is to be more organized.
My husband and I will be starting the process for an adoption in 2014. Nervous and excited! This is a beautiful journal; thank you for the giveaway!
Thank you 🙂
I’m hoping to Draw more… and clean more.
I keep saying I’m going to journal about the crafts I do, so this would be just the incentive I neeed. It’s lovely!
Get more organized, so I can be a better Support Coordinator for the elderly at my new job…. Take some free interesting courses through Course Pad.
My goal is to sketch everyday and to be more organized with my time.
I have a goal of teaching my daughter to ride her bike. Happy New Year!
One of my Resolutions is to “get organized.” I want to organize my craft supplies so I spend less time digging through supplies & more time knowing where exactly my stuff is, and just a lot of other stuff needs organizing in my life!
I plan to go after my goals like never before methodically with laser like focus.
My goal is to organize my living space better!
To clean out my office before someone wonders where I went and what is that smell coming from behind the door.
I want to organize more of my life outside of using electronic technology. While it’s nice to have Reminders and electronic post-its, nothing is quite the same as seeing your day and to-do written out on paper in ink.
My goal is for my husband and I to take a vacation purely for pleasure -actually go away, not stay at home doing home improvement tasks.
In 2014 I want to learn to enjoy Scotch
My resolution is to buy more pens and paper. Which is the same as last year lol. Maybe I’ll focus it more on exploring new inks and colors.
What I should do is complete all of the 2013 projects left unfinished before starting any new ones . . . what I actually will do remains to be seen .
My goal is to add more fountain pen inks to my life
I really really hope to not have any surgeries or ER visits in 2014.
But my resolution is to write more letters (and get back to journaling more).
My goal for the new year will be to write more and be more creative/crafty 🙂
Wow that is a beautiful journal. My goal for this upcoming year is to make more time for creativity in my life.
I have a notebook that I want to fill up with journal entries this year.
My resolution is to use my own stuff for crafting, reading, or whatever I try to do. Use my stuff first.
My goal this year is to procrastinate less and to be more organized.
One Of My Goals Is To Establish A Decent Savings Account
In this brand new year, I have a few goals. First of all, I’m currently doing some HIIT exercises, so I hope I can lose 3kg and increase my stamina by the end of the year. Secondly, I hope I can focus in my studies and get ace everything in the national examination I’ll be taking and also the CAE examination. Last but not least, I hope I can hang on there and do all the artsy things I want without being discouraged by other people’s thoughtless words. In other words, I hope I have the determination to never give up in my dreams.
That’s a lovely planner! My goal for the year is to finish the projects I’ve started.
My goal is to work hard at journaling about my life growing up so that I can leave that legacy for my daughter when I’m gone. I wish I had a journal written by my mother or grandmother that i could read and better understand where they came from and what helped to make them into the women they became.
My goal for this year is to do more creative journalling and keep my life more orderly.
