Smith Journal is a new publication for discerning gents (and ladies who like reading about discerning gents). It’s heads-up and hands-on. A friendly guide to all things creative, intriguing, genuine and funny – full of stories, people, adventures, interesting conversations and gentlemanly style. The people behind Smith were sick of the same old man-mags banging on about the same old crap. They wanted to create something they’d be happy to read themselves. That smart, creative guys could peruse without shame, slap down on the coffee table, whack in their favourite old satchel or display proudly on the toilet reading rack. Something that looked good, but had substance, wit and inspiration. At a time when everything seems like it’s speeding up, Smith is a call to slow down. It’s about remembering, reviving and revamping forgotten traditions, skills and technologies. And backpedalling just enough to appreciate the good stuff in life. Like our readers, we’re not particularly obsessed with being the coolest, the biggest or the first in line. But we are interested in making things that last.

This is the introduction to a video series on how to write like an architect. This is another way to modify your writing. While its not longhand, it may be a good solution for someone looking for something geometric and would be great for addressing envelopes.I used to watch the architecture students practicing this technique when I was in school. As your skills improve, you will not need the straight edge for notes or daily writing but may still want to use the straight edge for more formal situations.(by howtoarchitect)

An email popped into my inbox this morning that spoke to me on a visceral level. It was titled: “OCD Packing: Make Traveling Easy.”

You had me at “OCD.”

If your knees get a little weak at the idea of hyper-organizing luggage options and packing cubes, then hop over to Timbuk2 and check out their travel solutions. Tonight, I will dream of shoe cubes and skateboard-wheeled roller bags.
