So everyone’s talking about the new iPhone 4s but who’s talking about how to make your iPhone look like YOUR phone and not all your freinds’ or family’s? I am. This beautiful photograph of vintage Penguin book covers will make your phone stand out in a crowd and says, “I still read books.” If this design doens’ speak to you like it does me, check out the hundreds of other options available through Society6 from photography to typography and illustration there’s sure to be something that speaks to you. Most designs are available as an iPhone case ($35) or just a skin ($15) if you prefer.

My loss is your gain!

I recently acquired a 7-year pen. Have you heard about the 7-year pen? Our friends over at Pen Addict posted a nice review about it. The thing is… I don’t like ball-point pens at all. We just don’t click. So, my 7-year Pen can be yours. It was removed from the package long enough for me to dash off a couple strokes on paper, discover it was a ballpoint and then zip it back into the packaging. So, its as close to Mint-in-package as it could get.

Are you a skull and coffee lover? Medium tip, black ballpoint lover? If so, this could be your new favorite pen. Leave a comment here on Well-Appointed Desk (using our Disqus comment feature) and I will do a drawing on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 so all entries must be in by Friday @ midnight CST.

A good workspace also needs a good utility table — a place to spread out materials for a project, brainstorm or just to stand around and jabber. This wood plank tabletop with solid sheet metal base and old signage drawers is beautiful, functional and environmental, not to mention seriously industrial. Details of the construction of the table can be seen under the “Collab Tables” tab on the Parliament Design site.

…today, when junk mail is predominant, “postal management is unable to articulate a compelling vision of the public good,”…

Quote attributed to Richard R. John, a historian at Columbia Univeristy Graduate School of Journalism.

While I continue to subscribe to paper magazines, send and receive zillions of packages via Etsy and other online shops, and even maintain relationships via written correspondence, I have to wonder the status of the postal service. So much of the bulk of materials send via the postal service doesn’t really qualify as serving the “public good,” does it?
