If you’ve lusted after vintage bullet pencils as long as I have, you’ll be delighted to hear that Midori is making both pencils and pens as well as refills. Both pens and pencils are available in three finishes: brass, brown and white. Pens are $31.95 and accept Ohto ballpoint refills ($1.20). Pencils are $23.95 and refills are $7.95 including three pencils and two erasers.

Dr. Ion and the Well-Appointed Letter Writer
This well-appointed, travel, correspondence kit was built with a Dr. Ion case made of numerous pockets, compartments and nooks for keeping things organized. As a mail artist and bookbinder, Jennie Hinchcliff of Red Letter Day keeps it chock full of the tools she needs but a similar kit could be filled with the tools of your trade or passion. Techie? Fill it with cables, memory cards and thumb drives, marking pens and zip ties. Knitter? Fill it with needles, scissors, stitch markers and patterns.
It seems this case, produced by Kutsuwa is quite the covetable item as I’ve found several references online to people searching high and low for it. I found it at My Maido for $29.95.

As a designer, I have always loved the shapes and forms of letters. Thankfully, Steve Jobs noticed this too (in his lifetime) or we would not have the fantastic tool we have today for making typography beautiful, varied and well-kerned.
